Reading defender, Nicky Shorey made his England debut and the OS states became the first Reading player to play for England in 100 years.
I missed the game as I was in Scotland and for some reason I can’t imagine, they didn’t want to show an England friendly. Talking to my friend tonight, it appears that he had a solid game, doing the simple defending well. However, Brazil played quite narrow and he didn’t have someone directly against him.
He made some forward runs but the couple of times he overlapped Joe Cole, he wasn’t passed to. We had a short discussion on whether this was because Cole didn’t want to pass to Shorey or Cole just didn’t want to pass to anyone.
As we’ve sung all season. Shorey for England! What a week for the guy. He got married the next day and then had to cancel the honeymoon to travel to Estonia with all the lads.

It seems that skilful midfielder, John Oster has done something to upset Wales manager, John Toshack and keeps being left out of the Welsh squad.
“It’s frustrating when you see players in the Wales team who wouldn’t get into our reserves side at Reading.”
Maybe, Toshack is scared of Oster’s sharp shooting skills. Or he is too friendly with Robbie Savage. Either way, he can join the club in Reading players sadly neglected from international duty. Nicky Shorey is clearly England material. And if Preston’s David Nugent can be called into the England squad, Leroy Lita should be a little bit upset. Steve Sidwell may feel that he needs to leave Reading to get a chance for a cap, whilst injured Ibrahima Sonko keeps turning down Senegal so he can be ignored by France.
At least living right back Legend Graham Murty gets into the Scottish team (I won’t say how easy this actually is for fear of upsetting the kilt wearers).
